Augmentation

One of our most popular cosmetic surgeries, breast augmentation, is used to increase the fullness and projection of your breasts. This surgery can also be used to restore breast volume after changes caused by age, pregnancy, breast feeding, or weight fluctuations. Breast augmentation alone cannot correct droopy breasts. If this is the correction you need, we will talk together about doing a breast lift in conjunction with augmentation.

Who is a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

  • Women who feel that their breasts are too small or want to enhance the contour of their body
  • Women who have a reduction in
breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss

Your Consultation Visit:

During your consultation with me, we will discuss your expectations for enhancing your appearance. I will give you a basic understanding of the procedure and the results that you can expect. We will talk about your health history, implant choice, risks and limitations, your incision, implant placement and recovery. You will have the opportunity to ask any additional questions or concerns that you may have. You are also welcome to tour our accredited surgery center so that you can be comfortable with where your surgery and recovery will be performed. Our patient care coordinator will give you pricing information for the procedures you have chosen and financing options, if you are interested.

Anesthesia:

For your comfort and safety, I do breast augmentation under general anesthesia. The procedure itself will take approximately one hour. You have medication to keep you comfortable after surgery.

Your incision:

My incision of choice is the inframammary incision, which is in the crease under your breast. This inconspicuous incision heals nicely and minimizes visible scarring. After your procedure is completed you will be placed in a sports bra which helps minimize swelling and supports your breast tissue as you heal.

Implants:

Your breast anatomy, skin elasticity, body type as well as your expectations will determine your post operative breast size. During your surgery, silicone shells filled with either saline (sterile salt water) or silicone gel are added to your own natural breast tissue to create a larger and fuller breast size. The implant is inserted into the pocket created, either under the pectoral muscle or directly behind the breast tissue. We will discuss your preferences and my recommendations during your consultation visit.

Recovery:

After surgery, you will go to our recovery room for at least one hour. Your caregiver will be waiting for you and will be given instructions in how to care for you in your initial post operative period (24-48hrs). You will be able to go home, with your caregiver, after you are released from our recovery room and you will come back for your first follow-up visit with me one week after surgery. Depending on the type of work that you do, most patients are able to return to work within a few days of surgery. During your post-op visits you will be advised when you can begin exercising and daily activities.
