Gynecomastia Reduction:

Gynecomastia is enlarged breasts in males and can be due to hormonal changes or heredity, although most often, there is no known cause. It can affect one or both breasts and is actually a fairly common condition.

Who is a Candidate?

Men who feel self conscious about their appearance and wish to reduce breasts and flatten and enhance their chest contour. It is usually performed when a male’s overall physical development is complete.

Your Consultation Visit:

During your initial visit, we will talk about how this procedure may improve your chest contour. I will complete a medical history with you and complete your physical exam. Together we can review your goals and the individual options that would be available to achieve your correction. Expected outcomes and risks will be reviewed and your questions answered. You will have the opportunity to ask any additional questions or concerns that you may have. You are also welcome to tour our accredited surgery center so that you can be comfortable with where your surgery and recovery will be performed. Our patient care coordinator will give you pricing information for the procedures you have chosen and financing options, if you are interested.

The Procedure:

If the cause of your gynecomastia is primarily fat deposits, I may use liposuction to make contour corrections. Gynecomastia can also be treated by excision, removing excess breast tissue, fat and skin or in some cases using both liposuction and excision. Your anatomy and my surgical judgement are all factors in determining the best approach to your individual case.

Anesthesia:

General anesthesia is used for your comfort and safety.

Recovery:

Initially you may have some swelling and discomfort which will be controlled with the medications we have selected for you. You will have a compression garment that will help as the swelling dissipates. Healing will continue over several weeks as your new chest contour settles.
