What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, often referred to as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure that effectively reduces forehead wrinkles that develop as we age. The procedure treats wrinkles that develop on the bridge of the nose and between the eyes and eyebrows. It raises the eyelids and hooded eyebrows. The procedure can be performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty, facelift, or skin resurfacing. This is a great method for providing patients with a refreshed, youthful appearance.
Who is a Candidate for a Brow Lift?
The best candidates for a brow lift are physically healthy individuals who do not smoke. If you smoke, it is necessary that you stop smoking prior to the surgery and during recovery as this can inhibit the full results.
The aging process can create deep wrinkles on the forehead, as well as it causes decreased muscle-tone and skin laxity. You may be an ideal candidate for a brow lift if you want to reduce forehead wrinkles for a refreshed look. To make sure that this procedure will be beneficial for you, make a consultation appointment with one of our doctors, Dr. Nakamura and Dr. Mohan, here at Accent On You in Arlington, Texas.
What to Expect at Your Consultation?
To prepare for your brow lift consultation, be ready to discuss the following with your plastic surgeon:
- Your medical history.
- Your overall goals for the procedure.
- Your medications.
During your discussion, your plastic surgeon will go over your individual concerns and examine various areas of your face. Photographs will be taken for comparison after the procedure is done. If you have any questions about the brow lift, your consultation appointment is the best time to ask.
The Brow Lift Procedure
The duration of a brow lift is typically between one-to-two hours. This is an outpatient procedure. Since sedation is used, you will need to have a ride home. It is recommended to have someone stay with you for the first night. Once anesthesia is administered, an incision will be made which will tighten the skin. There are several techniques that are used to make the incision.
One technique uses an endoscope, which is a tube that has a camera connected to the end.
Another technique that is used is a coronal incision. This incision runs from ear-to-ear across the top of the forehead, it is made within the hairline so the scars are easily hidden. The forehead skin will be lifted and adjusted.
For those with very high foreheads, an anterior hairline incision may be the best option. The incision can be made without altering the length of the forehead. While the scar with this incision can be more visible than the other incision options, it can be easily concealed with different hairstyles or accessories.
After the skin has been adjusted, the incisions will be closed with special clips, skin adhesives, removable sutures, or absorbable sutures.
For a brow lift, individuals are given general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Your doctor will discuss which is best for you during your consultation.
During recovery, you may have your forehead taped or loosely wrapped to speed healing and minimize swelling. This will only last for a few days. You may also have a small tube that is used to drain excess fluid under the skin. Your doctor will give you specific aftercare instructions that include how to care for drainage tubes, medications to take or apply, and when to schedule a postoperative visit.
Most individuals will heal within ten-to-fourteen days of having the treatment done. At this time, individuals can return to work and resume other light activities. Healing will still continue for several weeks after a brow lift, so it is important to refrain from strenuous activities until you are cleared by either Dr. Nakamura or Dr. Mohan at Accent On You. While you are healing, it is important to keep the incisions from excessive force, motion, or abrasion.
The results of a forehead lift are long-lasting. You will notice smoother forehead skin and a youthful appearance for many years to come. Would you like to know more about a brow lift in Arlington?
