Liposuction techniques have become more and more advanced and precise due to several refinements and advancements in technology for minimally invasive fat removal. Today, we perform liposuction with a tumescent solution in conjunction with VASER, known as the leader in laser-assisted liposuction.
During this procedure, we sculpt the body and remove unwanted body fat from common areas such as the inner and outer thighs, waist, hips, back, knees, upper arms, chin/neck, and abdomen.
Who Is a Candidate for Liposuction?
- Patients who are within normal weight ranges for their body type, and who have excess pockets of fat in certain areas that do not respond to traditional weight loss methods
- Patients who have a realistic expectation of the goals and outcomes of liposuction
- Non-smokers who lead healthy lifestyles
- People who do not have lots of excess skin in the area in which they desire fat removal.

Your Liposuction Consultation With Dr. Nakamura
During your visit to Accent on You, we will talk about your areas of concern, determine the location of your fat deposits, and assess the condition of your skin. We will also talk about the outcomes you can expect and alternative procedures if liposuction is not a good choice for you. For instance, women who have had children might be better candidates for a tummy tuck than liposuction in the abdominal area due to the possibility of excess lax skin.
We will discuss risks and complications from power-assisted liposuction, and of course, address any additional questions you may have about the procedure. You are also welcome to tour our accredited surgery center so that you can be comfortable with where your surgery will be performed.
Our patient care coordinator will give you pricing information for the procedures you have chosen and financing options if you are interested.
The Liposuction Procedure
Through a small incision, Dr. Nakamura will insert a narrow cannula and inject the fatty layer of tissue with a tumescent solution. This is a medicated solution that helps to remove the excess fat more easily, reduces blood loss and bruising, and provides anesthesia during and after the surgery. This tumescent liposuction is combined with the VASER probe that provides ultrasound-assisted liposuction that “melts” the fat prior to removal. The emulsified fat is easier to remove and allows for smoother and more predictable contouring and quicker recovery times for our patients. This emulsified fat is then easily suctioned into a surgical vacuum pump without harming the surrounding tissue or blood vessels. This process is repeated if the procedure covers more than one area.
Meet The Doctor
With over 25 years of experience as a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Y. Anthony Nakamura places patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction at the foremost of each procedure he performs.
The Vaser Liposuction Procedure
Vaser liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that begins by making tiny incisions in the areas to be treated. Dr. Nakamura will gently destroy unwanted fat cells using ultrasound energy and ultimately remove them from the body. After the procedure, which can take one hour to several hours depending on the areas to be treated, special compression garments are applied. These compression garments will help your skin conform to its new contours.
Though there are limits to the amount of fat that can be removed during liposuction, this type of procedure has been proven to offer effective, precise results with a minimal amount of pain and bruising.
Anesthesia For Liposuction
Liposuction is comfortable and safe when performed under general anesthesia by board-certified plastic surgeons. The length of time depends on the areas of concern and the amount of excess fat deposits. Medication will keep you comfortable after your surgery.
Liposuction Recovery
You will be fitted with a snug compression garment before you leave the surgery area. You will wear this garment for a few weeks to help control swelling and hold your skin contours after surgery. Your recovery room nurse will give your caregiver post-op instructions while you are waking up in the recovery room.
You may have some fluid drainage from your incision areas for a few days as well as some bruising. Healing is gradual as your swelling disappears, but most patients return to work a few days to a week after surgery. Your final contour will be more evident after about three months. Sutures will be removed one week after surgery.
