Liposuction in Fort Worth, TX
Dr. Y. Anthony Nakamura, a board-certified plastic surgeon and recognized expert in plastic surgery and body contouring, performs liposuction for the residents of Arlington, Fort Worth, and the surrounding communities in Texas.
Liposuction techniques have become more and more advanced and precise due to several new refinements. Today, I do a combination of tumescent with VASER liposuction. During this procedure, we sculpt the body and remove unwanted fat from areas such as the inner and outer thighs, waist, hips, back, knees, upper arms, chin/neck, and abdomen.
Who Is a Candidate for Liposuction?
- Patients who are within normal weight ranges for their body type, and who have excess pockets of fat in certain areas that do not respond to traditional weight loss methods
- Patients who have a realistic expectation of the goals and outcomes of liposuction
Your Consultation Visit
During your visit, we will talk about your areas of concern, determine the location of your fat deposits, and assess the condition of your skin. We will also talk about the outcomes you can expect and alternative procedures if liposuction is not a good choice for you. For instance, in women who have had children, a tummy tuck may be a better choice for the abdominal area. We will discuss risks and complications and, of course, address any additional questions you may have about the procedure. Your health history and current medications will be reviewed so that we can be certain of your candidacy. You are also welcome to tour our accredited surgery center so that you can be comfortable with where your surgery and recovery will be performed. Our patient care coordinator will give you pricing information for the procedures you have chosen and financing options if you are interested.
Through a small incision, I will insert a narrow cannula and inject the fatty layer with tumescent fluid, a medicated solution that helps to remove the fat more easily, reduces blood loss and bruising and provides anesthesia during and after the surgery. This tumescent liposuction is combined with VASER-Lipo or Liposelection by which we use an ultrasonic probe that “melts” the fat. The emulsified fat is easier to remove and allows for smoother and more predictable contouring and quicker recovery times for our patients. This emulsified fat is then easily suctioned into a surgical vacuum pump. This process is repeated if the procedure covers more than one area.
Liposuction is most comfortable and safe when performed under general anesthesia. The length of time depends on the areas of concern and the amount of fat deposits. Medication will keep you comfortable after your surgery.
You will be fitted with a snug compression garment before you leave the surgery area. You will wear this garment for a few weeks to help control swelling and hold your skin contours after surgery. Your recovery room nurse will give your caregiver post-op instructions while you are waking up in the recovery room. You may have some fluid drainage from your incision areas for a few days as well as some bruising. Healing is gradual as your swelling disappears, but most patients return to work a few days to a week after surgery. The final contour will be more evident after about three months. Sutures will be removed one week after surgery.
