7 Things You Should Know Before Having a Mommy Makeover Surgery

Posted on March 18, 2021 by Dr. Nakamura

As a mother, you know the joy of having children and making memories with them is unmatched. However, having kids means you will notice specific changes in your body. Among them, you may experience a few extra pounds around the middle that you simply cannot lose or saggy breasts that can be an area of insecurity. Certain changes don’t happen with dieting and exercise alone, but there is another option: mommy makeover surgery.

Mommy makeover surgery can provide you with the body you once enjoyed before having your kids. It can include any procedure that involves parts of your body that have dramatically changed since your pregnancy and childbirth. Generally, there are 7 things you should know about mommy makeovers.

1.You shouldn’t have the procedure until you’re done having children

If you want more kids, you should wait before having the surgery as it can undo the results you get, making you have to go back to square one.

2.With a mommy makeover, it’s common to have multiple cosmetic surgery procedures

Every patient is different, but mommy makeovers usually entail, at the very least, a procedure like a tummy tuck and a procedure involving the breasts. The latter could be a breast augmentation or breast lift or even a combination of the two. It all depends on what the patient wants and needs.

3.Your mommy makeover should only be done when you’re at your ideal weight

You should only have the procedure once you’re at your goal weight. You don’t want to be too skinny or have a few extra pounds you prefer to shed. A weight you wish to maintain permanently is best.

4.You can add other procedures with a mommy makeover

Mommy makeovers are designed to have procedures added so that it can be tailored to your needs. Those that can be added include liposuction.

5.You should take a few weeks off for recovery

Your pain and discomfort should subside after the first week of your mommy makeover. However, it can take a full week to 10 days before you should drive. Usually, it takes around four weeks before you can resume your normal daily activities.

6.Certain seasons are better for having a mommy makeover

You can decide what season works best for you to have your mommy makeover. You should have someone close to you come over to help with the kids during your recovery or have your significant other or spouse take time off.

7.Have a consultation before your mommy makeover

It is always a good idea to have a consultation with a plastic surgeon before getting any surgery. You want to ensure that you and the doctor are in sync and agree about your goals. This can also ensure that you know what to expect.

If you want a mommy makeover and are based in Texas, contact Accent on You to schedule a consultation.

How to Reverse Sun Damage

Posted on September 3, 2020 by Dr. Nakamura

Spending time in the sun is beneficial for everyone. Among other things, it can help boost your vitamin D levels for a healthier body and mind. However, being exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays for long periods of time can cause significant damage to your skin. It’s important to know that sun damage is not irreversible, and you can take steps to prevent it. Here’s what to know about it and how our team can help.

Types of Sun Damage

Sun damage comes in different forms, with some being minor and others being severe enough to require medical intervention. Things like freckles and benign moles are on the least concerning end of the spectrum, but that doesn’t mean they can’t become concerning with continued exposure. Too much time spent outside or using a tanning bed leads to skin cancer.

Other types of sun damage include:

  • Sunburn
  • Melasma
  • Actinic keratosis
  • Actinic cheilitis
  • Bowen disease

If you have something like actinic keratosis or other types of suspicious lesions, you should see a medical professional immediately. Everyone’s skin processes UV rays differently, and factors such as your age and melanin levels will influence how quickly and to what extent sun damage affects you.

How to Reverse Sun Damage

Reversing sun damage can require aggressive treatment if it’s severe or long-standing. Our team can create the ideal treatment package for you using some of our best products and skincare treatments.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating simply means removing dead skin cells and debris so healthy skin can take its place. Normal cell turnover is about one month, but you can exfoliate regularly to help boost the process. You can use physical exfoliation, meaning you use a tool or scrubbing product to gently remove debris and dead cells from the surface of the skin. A more uniform and gentler way to exfoliate is through chemical exfoliation, which uses active ingredients in products to loosen and remove dead cells.

Increase Your Intake of Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a nutrient that gives the health and quality of your skin a major boost. It can also help hydrate your skin and benefit your immune system. A great source of vitamin A is retinol, which is also something that boosts and stimulates collagen production. In addition to using sunscreen, look for retinol products that are suitable for both day and night application. This is because retinol products can make your skin photosensitive, increasing your exposure to UV rays.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a more aggressive treatment option that can reverse signs of sun damage and boost collagen production in the skin. There are a huge variety of laser treatment options available, so your plastic surgeon can recommend the right one for you. Although you might require downtime after each treatment, lasers can produce transformative results with the right approach.

Answering Your Top Questions about Tummy Tucks

Posted on July 20, 2020 by Dr. Nakamura

If you’re considering a tummy tuck, you probably have several questions about the procedure and recovery process. You’ll have a chance to ask all of these questions during a consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon, but most tummy tuck candidates tend to have similar questions about the procedure. Here are answers to some of your top tummy tuck questions.

Can you gain belly fat after a tummy tuck?

Typically, a tummy tuck includes liposuction to permanently remove fat and sculpt the abdominal area. Fat cells do not regenerate, which means that it is not possible for the belly fat removed during a tummy tuck to be regained. However, you can still gain weight after having a tummy tuck. This fat will likely be stored in other areas such as the hips, thighs, arms, or buttocks.

Does a tummy tuck make your waist smaller?

It is possible for a tummy tuck to make the waist smaller as excess fat and loose skin are removed. If shrinking the waist around your hips and through the back is one of your goals, Dr. Nakamura may recommend that you consider a waist tuck.

Can you ruin a tummy tuck?

It’s possible to disrupt or lose the results that you achieved through a tummy tuck by gaining a significant amount of weight. However, fluctuations of about 10-15 pounds should not significantly change the results of a tummy tuck. To maintain your results, it’s best to stick to a healthy diet and exercise routine. If you’re choosing a tummy tuck after pregnancy, it’s recommended to wait until you are no longer having children to have the procedure so your results are long-lasting.

How do I get my stomach flat after a tummy tuck?

Immediately after a tummy tuck, you will experience some swelling. This can be alleviated by wearing a compression garment as directed and following all aftercare instructions carefully. For women in particular, you may see a curve in the abdominal region due to your anatomy, which cannot be reversed even with a tummy tuck. Dr. Nakamura will explain reasonable expectations for your results after a consultation.

Can I get a six-pack after a tummy tuck?

While an abdominoplasty does tighten the abdominal muscles, the surgery alone isn’t designed to give you the appearance of a six pack. However, it is typically possible for the patient to achieve this look through an exercise routine once their recovery process is complete.

What is the fastest way to recover from a tummy tuck?

The tummy tuck recovery period generally lasts about six weeks before you will feel back to your previous energy and endurance level. However, you can encourage a fast and simple recovery period by eating nutritious foods, walking and getting light exercise, sleeping in an inclined position, and following Dr. Nakamura’s directions.

How long does the tightness last after tummy tuck?

A tightening sensation in the abdominal region is a normal part of the healing process. For most patients, this symptom lasts for 6-12 weeks.

How much does a tummy tuck cost in Fort Worth Texas?

The final cost of your tummy tuck will vary depending on the extent of your surgery and other factors, but in general, a tummy tuck costs between $7,000-10,000 in Fort Worth, Texas.

How to Achieve a Sculpted Waist

Posted on July 20, 2020July 7, 2020 by Dr. Nakamura

Hoping for a sculpted, toned waist drives many people to the gym or new diet plans. However, sometimes genetics or other factors such as the effects of pregnancy make it difficult to achieve the body contour you’re looking for no matter how much you exercise. For these patients, there are several procedure options available that offer a sculpted waist. Depending on whether you’re dealing with stubborn fat, loose skin, or both, your surgeon may recommend one treatment over another to help contour your waist.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a procedure chosen when the midsection has loose skin, damaged tissue, and excess fat. This is commonly caused by the rapid change in size during pregnancy or significant weight loss. During a tummy tuck, a long horizontal incision is made from hip to hip, as well as around the belly button so it can be repositioned and remain natural looking after the procedure is complete. Excess skin throughout the abdomen is removed and the abdominal muscles are tightened to create a smooth, tight, and toned appearance. Excess fat can also be removed during a tummy tuck using liposuction.

Mini Tummy Tuck

For patients with less extreme loose skin or excess tissue through the abdomen, a mini tummy tuck is available. A mini tummy tuck is focused on the lower abdomen alone, and reduces excess skin only below the belly button. The main benefit of this procedure compared to a full tummy tuck is reduced downtime and an easier recovery period overall. Your surgeon will recommend which type of tummy tuck is best for you after a consultation.

Waist Tuck

A waist tuck is similar to a tummy tuck procedure, but the incision extends around the waist and hip area to reduce excess tissue in these parts of the body. Often, patients choose this procedure because they want to reduce the appearance of a “muffin top.” Another benefit of the waist tuck is that the procedure can slightly lift the buttocks in addition to sculpting the abdomen, hips, and waist.

Liposuction

Liposuction has been in use for many years, and updated technology means the procedure is safer and more effective than ever.

Liposuction works by inserting a cannula below the skin through a small incision, which is used to manually break apart fat cells and suction them away. In some cases, Accent on You also uses VASER liposuction, in which an ultrasonic probe is used to “melt” fat before suctioning it away, which can reduce trauma and bleeding through the procedure.

Liposuction can be used strategically to contour the body, creating a balanced contour and the sculpted, curvy waist that you’re looking for.
