Your Breast Procedure Offerings at Accent On You

Posted on May 2, 2022April 14, 2022 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

Have you been considering a plastic surgery breast procedure, but still have some questions? Today there are many different procedures available, and, depending on your personal preference and needs, you can increase the size and volume of your breasts, lift your breasts or even have them reduced. At Accent On You, the sky’s the limit! Read on to learn more about what’s offered and decide what procedure is right for you.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation ranks as perhaps the most popular cosmetic breast surgery option. If you are dissatisfied with the size of your breasts, augmentation can enhance them and increase their size with implants. Women who have very small breasts or who have lost volume due to pregnancy and breastfeeding are prime candidates for the procedure.

If you choose breast augmentation, you will have a consultation to discuss your options and expectations. You can choose the type and size of the implant and learn what’s appropriate for your body type. We will work with you to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Breast Lift

A breast lift is a procedure that raises the breasts when there’s an issue of sagging. It can also correct the issue of drooping and nipples that point downward. Women who are in overall good health who don’t smoke and who are done having children are the best candidates for this surgery. You can be left with perky, more youthful breasts after your procedure.

Breast Lift with Augmentation

Some women choose to undergo a breast lift with augmentation. This combines breast lift surgery with breast implants. In other words, when you have this procedure, you can have your breasts lifted and enlarged at the same time. This is the right option for women who have a problem with sagging, drooping breasts that have also lost volume due to weight loss or pregnancy and breastfeeding.

In order for the procedure to be a success both health-wise and results-wise, it’s important to be in good overall health and be a non-smoker. Breast lift with augmentation is a highly popular cosmetic surgery procedure that can give you a more feminine figure and restore your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Breast Reduction

A breast reduction is a plastic surgery procedure that is often necessary for women who have very large breasts. If a woman regularly experiences issues such as back, shoulder, or neck pain, it can significantly impact the quality of her life. A breast reduction can address those problems and make your breasts smaller to the point where you can manage to walk, stand, sit and lie down without aches and pains.

To be a good candidate for this surgery, it’s important to be a non-smoker, be in good overall health and have a healthy body mass index or BMI. If you are considered overweight or obese, it’s advised to reach your goal weight before undergoing a breast reduction. You should also retain your goal weight after the procedure as your breasts could become larger if you gain too much weight after having the surgery.

Can You Have Plastic Surgery With a High BMI?

Posted on April 12, 2022 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

Many in-shape, fit people have cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures done to improve their appearance and overall health. However, if you’re overweight and considering undergoing a cosmetic procedure, you may want to know whether it’s appropriate based on your body mass index (BMI). Dr. Nakamura at Accent On You in Arlington, TX will take your BMI into account during a consultation about certain surgical procedures. It’s important to know why and what you can do to prepare for surgery.

How Does Your BMI Affect Your Ability to Have Surgery?

Cosmetic or plastic surgery is just like any other type of surgery and carries certain risks. Although the risks are generally low for the average person, having a higher BMI can increase those risks. If your BMI is high, Dr. Nakamura may first want you to lower it before doing the surgery. This is done to ensure that you are in the best health so that you can get the best results from your procedure.

Can You Still Have Surgery With High BMI?

The answer in many cases is yes, you can still qualify for certain cosmetic surgery procedures with a high BMI. However, due to the possible complications that a high BMI increases the risk for, Dr. Nakamura may not recommend surgery, but rather a less-invasive procedure or recommend a way to attain a better BMI prior to surgery.

Risk factors like smoking, having underlying health conditions, and a high BMI all play into Dr. Nakamura’s final diagnosis and recommendation for treatment, as surgery is not something to be taken lightly, but that can be performed on a wide variety of individuals who may have some degree of increased risk.

What You Need to Remember About Your BMI and Cosmetic Surgery

At the end of the day, if your BMI is on the higher side and you plan on having cosmetic or plastic surgery, you need to take all of these factors into consideration. If your BMI is high, you may have to work on lowering it to a healthier level before you can undergo the surgery you desire. Whether you are having liposuction, breast augmentation, or any other breast or body sculpting surgery, a lower BMI can help you heal faster and more effectively and have fewer complications.

However, you also need to take into account that the reach of these surgical procedures is limited. Coupling a healthy BMI with realistic expectations will provide a faster recovery and more successful procedure.

Should I Get a Breast Lift or a Breast Augmentation?

Posted on April 23, 2020April 23, 2020 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

Have you started noticing changes in your breasts? This is completely normal! The breasts drastically change throughout life. This can happen because of hormones, genetics, childbirth, breastfeeding, and even weight fluctuations. With time, the breasts can start to lose their shape and even sag or look deflated.  How can you get your breasts back to their best? Consider getting a breast procedure at Accent On You. Dr. Nakamura offers breast augmentation and a breast lift, depending on your needs and goals. But how do you know which to choose? There are a few different things to consider.

What You Need to Consider

The top three things to consider before choosing a breast procedure are nipple position, volume, and breast size. Depending on your goals for all three, your breast surgery will vary.

Nipple Position

The position of your nipples can determine which breast procedure is more beneficial. If you notice that your nipples point downward or sit below the breast crease, then you may be a good candidate for a breast lift. Losing volume in the breasts of having sagging tissue can cause the nipple to change position, stretch, and become larger. When the breasts lose volume and start to sag, your nipple will do so as well. A breast lift can raise the breasts back to a youthful position along with repositioning and reshaping the nipple.

Volume

To help with breast volume, breast augmentation is the best option. The breast volume refers to how full your breasts appear. Changes like weight loss can cause the breasts to look flat, or smaller. Breast augmentation can use an implant to restore lost volume to the breast and reshape the breasts as well. Additionally, a breast lift may also be needed if there is lax tissue that needs to be addressed.

Breast Size

Breast surgeries are the most common plastic surgery procedures done each year. Women can be unhappy with their breast size for many reasons. If you’ve always wanted larger breasts or want to correct asymmetrical breasts, breast augmentation is an excellent option for you. There are various breast implant types, shapes, and sizes so you can get your desired look. During your consultation with Dr. Nakamura at Accent On You, he will recommend implant types for you based on your goals and concerns.

Combining Breast Lift with Breast Augmentation

If you have sagging, low hanging breasts that have lost volume, you may need a combination procedure. Breast augmentation and a breast lift can be performed alone or combined to give you the best results. Plus, you can save money and time spent in recovery by getting both procedures done together. Dr. Nakamura will provide a recommendation for a single or combination surgery during your consultation.

It All Starts With a Breast Surgery Consultation

The Best Procedures for a Slim Waist

Posted on March 10, 2020September 26, 2022 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

A slim, contoured waist is a decidedly feminine feature that many women want. This contour can be lost through a variety of factors, from excess fat to loose skin as a result of pregnancy or dramatic weight loss. Dr. Nakamura and the Accent On You team offer a variety of surgical and nonsurgical procedures to enhance or create a slim waist. These include liposuction, waist tuck, tummy tuck, and mini tummy tuck.

Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most versatile procedures available because it is useful for many areas of the body and can enhance other procedures as well. The procedure manually removes unwanted fat and can use to refine the contour of the waist, creating the slim curve that best meets your aesthetic goals. Liposuction techniques have advanced significantly over the years, and Dr. Nakamura now utilizes the VASER, or suction-assisted, liposuction technique. While this is a surgical procedure and requires some downtime, liposuction may be preferable for some patients over other techniques. For example, if you have more fat to remove or if you wish to undergo a single procedure, Dr. Nakamura may recommend liposuction as the most effective treatment option.

Waist Tuck

If loose skin and fat are the reason you’re missing out on the slim waist they want, a waist tuck might be the best procedure for you. A waist tuck removes the excess tissue that can make up a “muffin top” that bulges over the top of lower-rise pants and can create a slight lift to the buttocks as well.

The waist tuck procedure is completed using an incision that begins in the lower abdomen and extends around the waist to above the buttocks. Through this incision, excess skin and fat can be removed. As a more comprehensive procedure, the waist tuck is preferable especially for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and are left with loose skin. If loose skin is not present, liposuction alone may be preferable to contour the waist.

Tummy Tuck and Mini Tummy Tuck

Tummy tucks and mini tummy tuck procedures are designed to tighten and tone the abdomen and are a common choice among patients dealing with loose skin and stretch marks after pregnancy. Similar to a waist tuck, a tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat through an incision made from hipbone-to-hipbone. Additionally, the abdominal muscles are tightened to create a firm and toned look. A mini tummy tuck, unlike a standard tummy tuck, only addresses loose skin and excess tissue in the lower abdomen below the belly button for those who have less severe skin laxity.

Scheduling Plastic Surgery: Planning Your Procedure

Posted on January 21, 2020September 26, 2022 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

When getting plastic surgery, it is important to note what time of year your procedure should be done. Depending on your goals, you may want to wait for a certain time of year to get surgery. This is because some surgeries require longer healing times, leave visible scars, and may cause swelling. Planning for your procedure involves looking at how much time you can take off from work, how much recovery time is necessary, and preparing yourself for the surgery.

At Accent On You, we recommend that patients plan certain surgeries during different times in the year. Some more invasive procedures are best done during the Winter months whereas other minimally invasive treatments can be scheduled during the Summer months.

Winter Months

The cold months are very popular times to get a plastic surgery procedure done. There are multiple reasons why this is true. More people have time off during the holidays, so they do not need to take as many vacations or sick days. Also, the cold weather allows the freedom to wear bulkier clothing like sweaters and sweatpants in order to conceal any swelling or bruising. Another reason why many people get plastic and cosmetic surgery during the Winter is to help with healing. Many procedures require patients to stay away from direct sunlight. The cooler months where the Sun is not as visible is ideal for this.

Top Procedures Performed During Winter Are:

  • Liposuction
  • Tummy Tuck
  • Mini Tummy Tuck
  • Waist Tuck
  • Breast Surgery
  • Chemical Peels

liposuction

Spring Months

Many people are preparing for the Summer months that are just around the corner. In order to be bikini ready and look great for the Wedding season, patients turn to cosmetic procedures. Spring is a good time to get cosmetic procedures because there are a lot of long weekends to recuperate. Plus, it gives patients time to lose any holiday weight, so they are at optimal health to undergo surgery.

Top Procedures Performed During Spring Are:

  • Liposuction
  • Tummy Tuck
  • Breast Surgery
  • Chemical Peels

Summer Months

The summer is the least popular time of year to get a surgical procedure done. This is because it’s hot, many people have vacations, and they want to spend time outdoors. If you’re okay with spending time indoors, then you can still opt for a Summer surgery. For some, it’s a good option because Summer vacations provide optimal healing time.

Top Procedures Performed During Summer Are:

  • Botox
  • Injectable fillers
  • Facials

Fall Months

Fall is a good time to get plastic surgery done. The kids go back to school so parents can have more free time. It also starts to get colder out so bulkier clothing helps to conceal any swelling, bruising, and scars. Plus, getting surgery in the Fall leaves the Summer and Winter open to enjoy.

Top Procedures Performed During Fall Are:

  • Liposuction
  • Tummy Tuck
  • Breast Surgery
  • Chemical Peels

Why Choose a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon?

Posted on December 5, 2019November 21, 2019 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

When people are looking to get plastic surgery done, they need to make sure that they are choosing a qualified surgeon for the procedure. Many patients are afraid of terrible results that have them looking worse than before. Or even worse, getting infections and having to deal with complications. There are a lot of horror stories out there, but that is because most of those patients went to unqualified surgeons to get their procedure done. It is so important you get any plastic or cosmetic surgery from a board-certified surgeon.

Doctors who are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery have been specially trained in plastic surgery practices. Also, they need to follow rigorous continuous training and education to stay board certified. Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery ensures the doctors do these five things:

  1. Have specialized training: To become board-certified, doctors must complete at least five years of surgical training after medical school, including finishing a plastic surgery residency program.
  2. Have aesthetic expertise: Their training includes years of reconstructive surgery that focuses on function and form.
  3. Complete rigorous testing: The board certification process requires the surgeons to pass a set of rigorous examinations as well as fulfilling additional requirements by the board.
  4. Continuous education: When a physician is board-certified, it does not stop there. They are required to participate in continuing education programs to maintain their status.
  5. Have a dedication to patient care and safety: Board certification is voluntary and showcases a commitment to providing the highest standard and quality of care for the patients.

The American Board of Plastic Surgery aims to produce ethical, qualified plastic surgeons with extensive knowledge of the entire spectrum of plastic surgery. At Accent On You, patients can feel safe and comfortable knowing that Dr. Nakamura is held to these high standards.
