Everything You Need to Know Before Your Breast Lift Consultation

Posted on April 6, 2026May 6, 2026 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

If you’ve been thinking about a breast lift, you’re not alone. Millions of women explore this procedure each year — and for good reason. A breast lift, or mastopexy, can restore a youthful, lifted contour to breasts that have changed shape due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, or the natural aging process.

But before you book your surgery, the first and most important step is your breast lift consultation. This appointment is your opportunity to ask questions, understand your options, and determine whether the procedure is right for you.

At Accent On You in Arlington, TX, board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Nakamura and Dr. Halani specialize in personalized cosmetic surgery consultations — guiding each patient through the process with clarity, care, and expertise.

What Is a Breast Lift and Who Is It For?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and reshapes breast tissue to raise and firm the breasts. Unlike breast augmentation, a breast lift does not significantly change the size of your breasts — it changes their position and shape.

You may be a strong candidate for a breast lift if:

  • Your breasts sag or appear deflated after pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Your nipples point downward or fall below your breast crease
  • Your breasts have lost volume and firmness due to weight loss or aging
  • One breast sits lower than the other
  • You feel self-conscious about the shape or position of your breasts

What to Expect at Your First Breast Lift Consultation

Your consultation is a two-way conversation. Here’s what typically happens during your appointment with Dr. Nakamura or Dr. Halani at Accent On You:

1. Medical History Review

Your surgeon will ask about your health history, any previous surgeries, medications, allergies, and lifestyle factors such as smoking. This information is essential for determining whether you are a safe surgical candidate and planning your recovery.

2. Physical Examination

A physical evaluation of your breasts will be performed. Your surgeon will assess the degree of sagging (called ptosis), the quality of your skin, nipple position, and breast volume. This helps determine which breast lift technique is most appropriate for your anatomy.

3. Discussion of Surgical Techniques

There are several breast lift techniques, and your surgeon will recommend the one best suited to your goals and anatomy:

  • Crescent lift — minimal incision, subtle correction
  • Periareolar (donut) lift — moderate lift, scar around the areola
  • Vertical (lollipop) lift — moderate to significant lift, two-incision approach
  • Anchor (inverted T) lift — significant lift, most comprehensive correction

4. Combination Options

Some patients combine a breast lift with implants to restore lost volume. Dr. Nakamura and Dr. Halani will help you understand whether a breast lift alone — or a breast lift with augmentation — better aligns with your desired outcome.

5. Before & After Photos

Reviewing before-and-after photos of real patients with similar anatomy can help set realistic expectations. Don’t hesitate to ask to see examples during your consultation.

6. Cost and Financing

Your consultation is also the right time to discuss the total cost of the procedure, including surgeon fees, anesthesia, and facility costs. Breast lift surgery is typically not covered by insurance unless there is a documented medical necessity. Ask about financing options — many practices offer payment plans to make surgery more accessible.

Questions to Ask Your Breast Lift Surgeon

Going into your consultation prepared can help you make the most of your time with Dr. Nakamura or Dr. Halani. Consider asking:

  • Am I a good candidate for a breast lift based on my anatomy?
  • Which technique do you recommend for my specific situation, and why?
  • What results can I realistically expect?
  • Will I need implants to achieve my goals, or is a lift alone sufficient?
  • What does recovery look like, and when can I return to work and exercise?
  • How will my scars look long term, and how can I minimize them?
  • What are the risks specific to my health profile?
  • How many breast lift procedures have you performed?

How to Prepare for Your Consultation

A little preparation goes a long way. Here’s how to make the most of your appointment:

  • Bring a list of all current medications and supplements
  • Note your medical history, including any previous surgeries or breast procedures
  • Write down your goals — what bothers you most and what outcome you’re hoping for
  • Bring photos of results you admire from the surgeon’s gallery or your own research
  • Wear a comfortable top that’s easy to remove for the physical exam
  • Bring a trusted friend or partner for support and to help remember details

What Happens After the Consultation?

After your initial consultation, you’ll receive a personalized treatment plan that outlines the recommended surgical approach, recovery timeline, and total cost. You are never under any obligation to move forward immediately — take the time you need to feel fully confident in your decision.

If you decide to proceed, the team at Accent On You will walk you through pre-operative instructions, including:

  • Stopping certain medications and supplements that can increase bleeding risk
  • Quitting smoking at least 4–6 weeks before surgery
  • Arranging for a trusted adult to drive you home and care for you in the first 24 hours
  • Preparing a comfortable recovery space at home

Why Should I Combine My Breast Augmentation With A Breast Lift?

Posted on February 24, 2026March 24, 2026 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

Many women considering breast enhancement want fuller volume and a more lifted, youthful shape. When concerns like sagging breasts, excess skin, and loss of breast volume happen together, a combined breast augmentation and lift can be the most effective solution. At Accent On You, patients benefit from customized surgical planning led by two highly respected, board-certified plastic surgeons.

Understanding Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift

Although often discussed together, breast augmentation and breast lift surgery address different aesthetic concerns. Combining them into a single augmentation mastopexy procedure allows both volume and position to be corrected simultaneously.

Augmentation

Breast augmentation focuses on increasing breast size and improving breast profile using breast implants. Patients may choose between silicone breast implants, saline implants, or silicone implants depending on their anatomy, breast tissue, chest wall dimensions, and desired breast shape. Augmentation alone can enhance volume, but it does not correct sagging tissues or low nipple position.

Lift

A breast lift repositions the breasts by removing excess skin, tightening breast skin, and elevating the nipple position for a more youthful breast contour. Techniques such as a vertical lift or an anchor-shaped incision are selected based on skin elasticity, breast size, and the degree of sagging. While a lift improves breast contour, it does not restore lost volume.

The Benefits of a Combination Procedure

A breast lift with augmentation delivers comprehensive results by restoring fullness while correcting sagging breasts. Key benefits include:

  • A more youthful breast contour and improved breast shape
  • Enhanced breast volume without compromising nipple position
  • One surgery, one recovery period, and one surgeon’s fee
  • More balanced results for patients with sagging tissues and volume loss
  • Reduced the need for future corrective breast surgery

Most patients appreciate that this outpatient procedure, typically performed under general anesthesia, addresses multiple concerns at once while minimizing overall downtime. Many return to light activity within a few weeks while wearing a supportive surgical bra during the healing process.

Considerations Before Your Surgery

Because augmentation mastopexy is a major surgery, a thorough exam and in-depth consultation are essential to ensure safe, predictable results. During your evaluation, your plastic surgeon will carefully assess factors such as skin elasticity, overall breast skin quality, breast tissue thickness, and the position of the inframammary fold, all of which influence implant selection and surgical technique.

Your personal health history, including weight fluctuations, future weight gain or loss plans, and the need for a baseline mammogram, particularly for patients with a history of breast cancer, will also be discussed. It’s equally important to understand practical aspects of surgery, including the cost of implants, anticipated pain medication needs, and what to expect during the healing process. Your surgeon will review the surgical procedure process and any questions you may have.

Why Choose Accent On You?

At Accent On You, patients are cared for by Dr. Nakamura and Dr. Halani, both board-certified plastic surgeons recognized by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and active members of the Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Nakamura is known for his meticulous surgical technique and attention to natural-looking results across cosmetic surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery procedures.

Dr. Halani brings advanced training and a patient-centered approach, focusing on safety, proportion, and long-term outcomes. Together, they tailor every breast enhancement surgery to the patient’s anatomy, goals, and lifestyle, whether restoring volume after weight loss, correcting sagging breasts, or refining breast shape after pregnancy.

Take the Next Step Towards Your Dream Look

If you’re considering a boob job but want more than just added volume, combining breast augmentation surgery with a breast lift may be the ideal solution. Schedule your personalized consultation at Accent On You to help determine whether augmentation mastopexy is the right procedure for you.

Summer Confidence Boost Inspired by Breast Lifts and Breast Augmentations

Posted on July 23, 2025August 27, 2025 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

As summer continues in Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield, and Irving, many people are embracing the opportunity to refresh and rejuvenate their look and achieve the perfect summer body. That’s where we come in at Accent on You!  If you’re yearning to tackle the rest of the summer and the fall with newfound confidence, read on to discover how a breast lift or augmentation could transform your self-image.

What is a Breast Lift?

Due to the natural aging process, pregnancy, or significant weight loss, the breasts can start to sag. That’s where a breast lift comes in. A breast lift is a surgical procedure and breast surgery that is designed to lift the breasts to a more youthful position. It works to remove excess skin and reshape the breast tissue to raise sagging breasts. On top of that, a breast lift can also make the breasts more symmetrical, remove excess skin, and tighten the breast tissue to lift the nipples.

While a breast lift can’t increase the size of your breasts, when combined with breast augmentation, you can have a complete breast rejuvenation.

What is Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery used to increase breast size and improve your overall breast shape. It involves placing breast implants under the breast tissue or over the chest muscles to give you the results you’re looking for.  At Accent on You, we use both silicone and saline implants. Which one is right for you will depend on your aesthetic goals.

The Transformative Power of Breast Lifts and Breast Augmentations

Whether you’re considering a breast lift or breast augmentation (or both), both of these cosmetic procedures have a notable impact on self-esteem. A breast lift can revitalize your appearance by raising and firming the breasts, while augmentation enhances the size and shape of the breasts. But they don’t just alter the physical; they also pave the way for greater self-confidence and empowerment, helping you feel as vibrant as the summer sun.

Timing Your Breast Lift and Augmentation Procedures

Posted on March 20, 2025July 16, 2025 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

Deciding when to undergo a breast lift with augmentation is an important step in achieving your ideal results. Timing can impact your recovery, final outcome, and overall satisfaction with the procedure. Factors such as future pregnancies, weight fluctuations, and personal lifestyle goals all play a role in determining the best time for surgery. At Accent On You, Dr. Nakamura and Dr. Halani provide expert plastic surgery services to help you look and feel your best.

A Deep Dive Into Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift

Breast augmentation and breast lift procedures serve different purposes but are often combined to achieve comprehensive breast enhancement. Breast augmentation surgery focuses on increasing volume and improving the breast size, shape, and breast volume using saline or silicone breast implants or fat transfer.

In contrast, breast lift surgery addresses sagging breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the breast tissue for a more youthful contour. Together, these procedures can restore balance and enhance symmetry in the breast skin.

Why Timing is Crucial

  • Early Pre-Surgery Consultations: Starting with an early consultation can make all the difference; discussing your goals and hearing about their esteemed work can fortify your decisions and provide a clear path forward.
  • Realistic Recovery Timelines: Understanding the recovery process is essential for anyone considering breast augmentation or a lift. Most patients take several weeks to recuperate fully, making it critical to schedule your surgery with enough lead time before summer activities.

The Strategic Benefits of Aligning with Summer

Planning your breast lift or augmentation procedure can ensure you look and feel rejuvenated when summer arrives, along with a multitude of benefits, such as:

  • Optimal Recovery Time: Many people have more flexible schedules during summer, making time off for recovery easier.
  • Seasonal Wardrobe: Loose, comfortable summer clothing can help conceal swelling and incisions while you heal.
  • Vacation Synergy: If planned well, surgery can coincide with vacation time, allowing for a restful recovery without disrupting work commitments.
  • Minimal Holiday Conflicts: Summer surgery means you’ll be recovered in time to enjoy end-of-year celebrations without restrictions.

Preparing for Surgery with Confidence

Preparing for surgery starts with proper planning and clear communication. Scheduling a detailed consultation allows you to discuss your goals, review your medical history, and understand the recommended procedure in depth. Asking questions about the surgical procedure, breast lift incisions, the choice between silicone and saline implants, potential risks, and expected outcomes of the breast enhancement surgery ensures you are well-informed and prepared.

Additionally, following pre-operative instructions, such as adjusting medications, avoiding smoking, and preparing your home for recovery, helps set the stage for optimal healing. Clear communication with your surgical team also ensures that concerns are addressed in advance. These steps allow you to enter your procedure feeling confident, informed, and fully prepared.

Fall In Love with Your Breasts This Autumn: The Benefits of a Breast Lift

Posted on November 8, 2024 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

Fall In Love with Your Breasts This Autumn With a Breast Lift

When considering a breast lift, choosing the right surgeon is crucial. Dr. Nakamura at Accent On You brings years of experience and a keen artistic eye to every procedure. As a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Nakamura combines technical expertise with a personalized approach to ensure each patient achieves their desired results. Our newest plastic surgeon, Dr. Halani, focuses on aesthetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. As a perfectionist, he is committed to ensuring elegant, natural results for his patients with the highest level of care, comfort, and safety.

Autumn is often associated with change and transition; it not only marks a seasonal change, but it can also be a time for new beginnings.  If you are considering a breast lift, Autumn may be the perfect time to pursue this procedure. At Accent On You, both Dr. Nakamura and Dr. Halani specialize in helping women achieve the youthful, perky breasts they desire.

Breast Lift 101

Over time, various factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and aging can cause breasts to lose their youthful shape and firmness. This can lead to self-consciousness or the inability to wear the clothing you desire comfortably.  A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts.

A breast lift can be a life-changing procedure, turning back the clock. This procedure can achieve a more youthful breast position by removing excess skin, reshaping breast tissue, and elevating the position of the nipples and areolas. It can also improve breast asymmetry. The result is a more youthful and uplifted breast contour that can significantly enhance your silhouette and self-esteem.

Undergo Your Breast Lift Before the Holidays

The fall season gives you ample time to recover before the holiday season. Most women need about 4-6 weeks to heal fully, so you will be well on your way to recovery and able to enjoy the holiday events and festivities. Plus, if you are looking to start 2025 with new, renewed confidence, a fall breast lift can be an ideal choice.

What to Expect During Your Breast Lift Journey

Your breast lift experience at Accent On You will begin with a free consultation with our surgeons, who will assess your needs and discuss your goals. We understand that no two patients have the same goals, which is why we create a tailored surgical plan for you. For some, Dr. Nakamura or Dr. Halani may recommend combining a breast lift with other procedures to achieve more comprehensive results. This could include breast augmentation for added volume or a mommy makeover for full-body rejuvenation.

During your procedure, excess skin is removed, surrounding tissue tightened, and the nipple is lifted to create a more youthful breast appearance. While breast lift alone does not round out the upper part of the breast, it can be combined with breast augmentation to achieve this goal.

Once the breast lift is performed, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions to ensure optimal healing and recovery. A follow-up appointment will also be scheduled to monitor your healing progress and post-op results.

Long-Lasting Benefits You Can Enjoy

Investing in a breast lift this autumn can provide long-lasting benefits that extend far beyond the physical changes. Many women who undergo a breast lift can enjoy increased confidence in their appearance, improved fit in clothing, enhanced body image and self-esteem, and greater comfort during physical activities. These positive changes can have a ripple effect, improving various aspects of your personal and professional life.

Your Next Steps Towards a New You

If you’re ready to learn more about a breast lift procedure to achieve your aesthetic goals by the holiday season, schedule your consultation at Accent on You in Arlington, TX, today! We are dedicated to helping you reach your unique breast goals.

Get Summer-Ready Breasts with a Breast Lift in Fort Worth, Texas

Posted on July 11, 2024July 11, 2024 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

Summer is here, and what better way to celebrate than by opting for a breast lift? At Accent On You, we are committed to ensuring our clients look and feel their best during the Texas heat. Our premier plastic surgery clinic, located in Texas, offers a variety of procedures, each designed to enhance your comfort and self-esteem.

Why Choose a Breast Lift?

Choosing a breast lift or mastopexy is often motivated by the desire to restore a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing breast contour. This surgical procedure addresses issues like sagging or drooping breasts caused by aging, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. By removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue, a breast lift can elevate the breasts to a higher, more natural position, improving their shape and firmness.

Many individuals opt for a breast lift to enhance their overall body proportions, boost self-confidence, and feel more comfortable in their clothing and swimwear. The procedure can also be combined with breast augmentation or reduction to achieve the desired size and shape.

The Benefits of a Breast Lift

  1. Restored Breast Shape and Firmness: This procedure elevates and reshapes sagging breasts, giving them a more youthful and firmer appearance.
  2. Improved Symmetry: Corrects uneven or asymmetrical breasts, enhancing overall breast contour and balance.
  3. Enhanced Confidence: Boosts self-esteem and body image by providing a more aesthetically pleasing breast profile.
  4. Better Fit in Clothing: Allows for a more comfortable and attractive fit in bras, swimwear, and other clothing.

The Breast Lift Procedure

Typically performed under general anesthesia, the surgery begins with incisions around the areola, extending downward and sometimes along the breast crease. Through these incisions, the surgeon repositions the nipple and areola to a higher, more natural location, removes any excess skin, and tightens the underlying breast tissue. The incisions are then closed with sutures, and the area is bandaged.

The result is a firmer, more contoured breast shape that can significantly enhance body proportions and self-confidence. Recovery time varies, but most patients can resume normal activities within a few weeks. Full results become apparent as swelling subsides and the breasts settle into their new position.

Experience the Difference with Accent on You

Am I A Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Posted on April 2, 2024April 2, 2024 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

As women age, the elasticity of their skin begins to diminish as collagen and elastin production decreases. Hormonal changes and giving birth can also cause the skin and tissues to age and lead to sagging breasts. On top of that, women who lose weight or have larger breasts that require lots of support may also notice drooping as they get older. For these reasons and more, many women are undergoing mastopexy, also known as a breast lift procedure.

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift removes excess skin and tightens up the supportive tissue to restore a natural perkiness and youthfulness to the breasts. The nipple is also placed in a more natural position at the center of the breast to ensure they are not pointing downward or drooping. While a breast lift tends to be less invasive than a breast augmentation, many people elect to have the two procedures together to give their breasts the most youthful and rejuvenated look possible.

Are You A Good Breast Lift Candidate?

Everyone has their own unique reason. But how do you know if you are a good candidate for the procedure? There are a few specifications that can help you determine if this is the right procedure for you. They include the following:

Sagging

The shape and volume of breasts can often change after breastfeeding as the mammary glands expand and contract. Hormonal changes also cause the breasts to swell and shrink in various stages after giving birth. Sagging can also be contributed to weight loss.

Restoring Youthful Nipples

Nipples can become elongated over time, and the areolas can stretch out and become larger. A breast lift can reduce the size of the areolas and reposition the nipples to a central position for a more youthful look.

Restoring Symmetry

When women develop asymmetrical breasts and/or nipples, this can create a distorted body image and lead to feelings of inadequacy or self-consciousness. By restoring your breasts’ symmetry, you can regain your confidence and feel more at home in your body once again.

Restoring Breasts

By eliminating excess skin and addressing sagging, our team at Accent on You can ensure your breasts are contoured and sculpted. With Dr. Nakamura’s expertise, you’ll achieve natural-looking, younger results.

Good Overall Health

To qualify for breast lift surgery, you should also be in good overall health, not be pregnant or breastfeeding, be a nonsmoker or able to quit for a period of time, and have realistic expectations.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

Some of the benefits you can look forward to with a breast lift include:

  • More youthful contour
  • Elevated breast position
  • Improved confidence
  • Enhances breast shape
  • More symmetrical breasts
  • Look better in clothes
  • More proportional nipples
  • Reduce excess skin

Recovery from a Breast Lift Surgery

Posted on November 18, 2023April 4, 2024 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

Breast lift surgery is a popular procedure for women who are the unfortunate victims of age and gravity. At some point in your life, your breasts will begin to sag and lose volume. While the procedure is not for everyone, many women who have undergone the procedure have satisfying outcomes. The procedure can often boost your self-confidence and give you a better self-image.

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a plastic surgery procedure that uplifts and alters your overall breast shape. While it won’t increase the size of your breasts, the procedure will give the breasts more volume, reduce sagging, and give the breasts a more firm and rounded appearance.

During the breast lift procedure, you will be placed under general anesthesia. The plastic surgeon will then make incisions and use state-of-the-art techniques to remove loose skin and reshape the breast area. The entire procedure usually lasts between two to three hours.

Breast Lift Recovery Tips

Once the procedure is over, the surgeon will cover your breasts with gauze and you will be required to wear a surgical support bra during recovery. In some cases, small tubes will be put around the incision site to drain excess blood and fluids from your surgery. Your breasts will be swollen and sore for a couple of weeks. The following is a list of tips you should follow to aid in a smooth recovery:

1. Make sure you have a schedule already set up so that you don’t need anything post-surgery. You need to be in a stress-free environment so you can recover as quickly as possible. Make sure you have prescriptions, meals already prepped, and anything else you can think of so you won’t have to do last-minute runarounds.

2. Be very gentle with your incision area. You must follow your surgeon’s protocol and make sure the area stays clean and dry. For the first few days, you should avoid showering altogether. Pat the area dry and do not remove scabbed areas.

3. Use the compression garments. They help support the breasts post-surgery and offer great protection.

4. Watch out for any complications. This is very important. If you feel or notice anything out of the ordinary, you should inform your doctor immediately. Infections and internal bleeding are uncommon but can happen.

5. Eat healthy and drink plenty of water. The more nutrients you get into your body, the faster the healing process.

6. Communicate with your doctor. Let them know if you have any questions or concerns about the procedure. They will be there for you throughout the process and can put your mind at ease and offer a great deal of support.

Schedule a Consultation

If you would like to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Y. Anthony Nakamura regarding breast lift surgery, fill out the online contact form. One of our team members will contact you with more information.

Can I Combine a Breast Lift with Breast Augmentation?

Posted on February 22, 2023 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

Breast lift with augmentation, also known as mastopexy-augmentation, is a cosmetic surgery that involves elevating the position of sagging breasts and enhancing their size through breast implants. This procedure is designed to address several common concerns, such as loss of volume, droopiness, and loss of firmness, providing a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing appearance to the breast. If you’re considering breast surgery, it’s normal to wonder about how to achieve more than one cosmetic goal at the same time. Breast surgeries can easily be combined – especially breast lift and breast augmentation. Here’s what to know about this combination procedure and what you can expect from Dr. Nakamura.

Who Is a Candidate for Breast Lift with Breast Augmentation?

Ideal candidates for a breast lift with augmentation have realistic expectations, are in good physical health, and do not smoke. Combining a breast lift with augmentation can provide a comprehensive solution to address multiple concerns in one surgery. Having these procedures performed together eliminates the need for multiple surgeries and can save time and money in the long run. However, it’s important to discuss all your concerns and goals with a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Nakamura to ensure that this is the best option for you.

How Is the Breast Lift with Augmentation Performed?

The breast lift with augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes 2-3 hours to complete. The exact procedure will vary based on the individual needs and goals of the patient, but it typically follows these steps.

  1. Incisions

Dr. Nakamura will make incisions on the breast to access the underlying tissue and muscle. The incision pattern will depend on the amount of skin and tissue that needs to be removed, as well as your anatomy and goals. You’ll discuss the appropriate incision during your consultation.

  1. Repositioning of Nipple and Areola

The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more youthful position on the breast. This may involve resizing the areola and removing excess skin.

  1. Placement of Implants

Dr. Nakamura will then place your selected breast implants either behind the muscle (submuscular placement) or behind the glandular tissue and in front of the muscle (subglandular placement).

  1. Closing of Incisions

The incisions are closed with sutures, and a dressing is applied to the breast. This helps to promote healing and reduce the risk of complications.

After the procedure, you will be taken to a recovery room for observation and to allow the anesthesia to wear off. Most patients experience discomfort, swelling, and bruising, but these side effects should subside within a few days to a week. It is important to follow all post-operative instructions from our team to ensure a safe and successful recovery.

Recovery From Breast Lift With Augmentation

Recovery from a breast lift with augmentation varies from person to person, but most patients can expect some degree of discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the days following the procedure. Dr. Nakamura will prescribe pain medication to minimize discomfort, and you should rest and avoid physical activity for several days. In addition, a surgical bra or bandage should be worn as much as possible to support the breasts during healing. Strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for several weeks, and you will have follow-up appointments with Dr. Nakamura to monitor your progress. The final results of surgery may take several months to emerge as the swelling subsides and the incisions heal fully.

How Long do Breast Lifts Last?

Posted on February 13, 2023 by Dr. Y Anthony Nakamura

One of the main holdups of people who want to enhance the projection, youthfulness, or fullness of their breasts through cosmetic surgery is how long the procedure will last. In that regard, artificial implants can have a confounding effect on the longevity of the breast enhancement process, as some can last decades whereas others might not.

A breast lift does not utilize volume-enhancing procedures on its own, but might be helpful for people looking for both a physical lifting of sagging breast tissue as well as volume enhancement. How long will it last? Let’s talk about it.

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a procedure to reshape the breasts to a more youthful (higher) position on the chest wall. It can also be done in combination with a breast augmentation or reduction. Breast lifts can be performed on people of all ages, most often for those who have been pregnant and had children.

The most common reason for having a breast lift is to improve the shape and size of your breasts after pregnancy and breastfeeding. It eliminates loose skin and stretch marks on the breasts that result from weight gain or loss and the effects of pregnancy. A breast lift may also be recommended if you have a large areola (the darker area around your nipple) or if you want perkier, fuller breasts.

How Long Does a Breast Lift Last?

Breast lifts can last a lifetime, but that depends on the type of lift you have. The most common breast lifts are vertical or anchor lifts. These types of lifts usually last for 10 to 20 years after the surgery.

Additional procedures can alter, if not enhance the longevity of your surgery. For example, breast implants can last 15 to 20 years, while fat injections into the breast may last anywhere between three and 10 years before they begin to show the signs of aging. Breast augmentation surgery can also be combined with a breast lift if desired.

Does a Breast Lift with Augmentation Change the Time It Lasts?

For most patients, the option of adding implants to a breast lift will not affect how long the enhancement will be noticeable. Breast augmentation does not last any longer than a simple breast lift.

When you undergo a breast lift, skin and fat tissue is removed from your chest and then repositioned in their new position. This is usually done under general anesthesia or could potentially be performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Nakamura will remove excess skin and fat from underneath the nipple and reshape the breast tissue to give it more volume. The nipple itself will remain in its original location but will sit higher on the chest wall than before.

When you have an augmentation at the same time, implants are placed in your breasts between the chest muscle and overlying skin. This creates a more natural look than when implants are placed under the muscle alone because there is less visible scarring when they are placed above the muscle.
