Recovery From Mommy Makeover Surgery

Posted on November 23, 2022 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

After giving birth, many women struggle to regain their pre-pregnancy bodies. Despite their best efforts with diet and exercise, women often find that certain parts of their bodies never entirely return to their pre-baby shape, even after reaching their ideal weight. Among the many cosmetic procedures available, the “mommy makeover” has quickly become a favorite for helping women get back in shape after having children. See below for details on what to expect from a mommy makeover operation, how long it will take to recover, and how long you can anticipate the results to last.

A Mommy Makeover: What Is It?

The term “Mommy Makeover” refers to the suite of cosmetic procedures sought out by women after giving birth to fix or enhance the parts of their bodies most commonly affected by pregnancy. The mommy makeover is typically customized to a patient’s unique needs with different cosmetic procedures. The biggest benefit of the mommy makeover is that all procedures are combined into a single surgical session. Still, this process has both pros and cons.

Pros

One of the key advantages of a mommy transformation is that it can fix several cosmetic problems in a single operation with only one downtime. Your body can look like it did before you had children with the help of a specialized process tailored to your needs, restoring your self-esteem by making you look and feel great.

Cons

Due to the number of procedures performed, a mommy makeover can require 4-6 weeks of dedicated downtime. This can be a significant amount of time for many moms, especially if they have young children who need constant care. You’ll also have to limit your physical activity and avoid lifting anything over 10 pounds (including children or pets).

What Exactly Does a Mommy Makeover Consist Of?

Since the abdomen and breasts are most negatively affected by pregnancy and childbirth, they are the primary focus areas during a mommy makeover procedure. Many women also opt for procedures like liposuction or breast reduction depending on their unique goals. During your consultation with Dr. Nakamura, you’ll discuss your unique needs from the mommy makeover.

What Can I Expect After a Mommy Makeover?

After a mommy makeover, it can take several weeks of recovery before your final results begin to emerge. However, the mommy makeover is one of the most permanent solutions to achieving your pre-baby body. With a healthy and active lifestyle, you can maintain your results for many years to come. For best results, though, it’s best to be finished having children since additional pregnancies can negatively impact your results. Our team will give you detailed aftercare instructions on caring for incisions, limiting activity, and taking medications so you can have a smooth and successful recovery.

Are You a Good Candidate for A Mommy Makeover?

Posted on September 30, 2021 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

Many factors play into a person’s desire to undergo cosmetic surgery, especially in the case of a mommy makeover: recovery time, cost, potential results, and perhaps most importantly, how others will perceive the change. When it comes to feeling unsure about whether you can benefit from a mommy makeover’s transformative surgical plan, rest assured that Dr. Nakamura and the whole team here at Accent On You are here to help you understand exactly what to expect, and whether you’re well-suited for the procedure

It is essential to understand how the whole makeover process is to be handled. You’ll be empowered both before the procedure and after you’re done with recovery. Let’s find out what makes up the perfect candidate for a mommy makeover.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for the Makeover?

There are a few criteria that an ideal mommy makeover candidate should have to ensure the procedure can be handled safely and will get the results desired. These include:

  • Being at a stable weight, close to your goal weight, less than 35 BMI (keep in mind this is not a weight-loss surgery)
  • Not smoking, at least for an extended period before and after the procedure
  • Not currently breastfeeding or have not breast fed for at least 6 months

We understand that different people seek out mommy makeover procedures for different reasons. For example, some want to get rid of the post-baby appearance of sagging abdominal skin or “deflated” breasts. Others are seeking the most efficient way to enhance their upper body contour, with a mommy makeover combined with liposuction.

Which is the Most Suitable Time for Mommy Makeovers?

Good candidates for mommy makeovers schedule their surgery for a time of the year in which the recovery period is easier and their lifestyle is least interrupted. This includes factoring in questions, such as:

  • Do you prefer to recover when the weather is cool such that you’ll wear clothes that cover the bandages?
  • Do you have family members available to assist with childcare if necessary?
  • Is there a time childcare is not needed, such as during a summer camp?
  • Are there strategic times to take off work to take advantage of certain holidays?
  • Do you expect a slow season at the workplace any time?

Scheduling the procedure in a convenient time makes the recovery process that much easier, ensuring you have the mental and physical capacity to focus on healing, not how many emails you’re going back to at work.

7 Things You Should Know Before Having a Mommy Makeover Surgery

Posted on March 18, 2021 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

As a mother, you know the joy of having children and making memories with them is unmatched. However, having kids means you will notice specific changes in your body. Among them, you may experience a few extra pounds around the middle that you simply cannot lose or saggy breasts that can be an area of insecurity. Certain changes don’t happen with dieting and exercise alone, but there is another option: mommy makeover surgery.

Mommy makeover surgery can provide you with the body you once enjoyed before having your kids. It can include any procedure that involves parts of your body that have dramatically changed since your pregnancy and childbirth. Generally, there are 7 things you should know about mommy makeovers.

1.You shouldn’t have the procedure until you’re done having children

If you want more kids, you should wait before having the surgery as it can undo the results you get, making you have to go back to square one.

2.With a mommy makeover, it’s common to have multiple cosmetic surgery procedures

Every patient is different, but mommy makeovers usually entail, at the very least, a procedure like a tummy tuck and a procedure involving the breasts. The latter could be a breast augmentation or breast lift or even a combination of the two. It all depends on what the patient wants and needs.

3.Your mommy makeover should only be done when you’re at your ideal weight

You should only have the procedure once you’re at your goal weight. You don’t want to be too skinny or have a few extra pounds you prefer to shed. A weight you wish to maintain permanently is best.

4.You can add other procedures with a mommy makeover

Mommy makeovers are designed to have procedures added so that it can be tailored to your needs. Those that can be added include liposuction.

5.You should take a few weeks off for recovery

Your pain and discomfort should subside after the first week of your mommy makeover. However, it can take a full week to 10 days before you should drive. Usually, it takes around four weeks before you can resume your normal daily activities.

6.Certain seasons are better for having a mommy makeover

You can decide what season works best for you to have your mommy makeover. You should have someone close to you come over to help with the kids during your recovery or have your significant other or spouse take time off.

7.Have a consultation before your mommy makeover

It is always a good idea to have a consultation with a plastic surgeon before getting any surgery. You want to ensure that you and the doctor are in sync and agree about your goals. This can also ensure that you know what to expect.

If you want a mommy makeover and are based in Texas, contact Accent on You to schedule a consultation.

How to Prepare for Your Mommy Makeover

Posted on September 16, 2020 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

Despite the joy that comes with it, having a baby can take a toll on your body. If you’ve been struggling to get your body back to where it was before pregnancy, you’re not alone. Many women experience difficulty losing fat and loose skin that is leftover from the changes that happen during pregnancy. One great option is the mommy makeover, and it’s well-known for its transformative results. If you’re considering your options, it’s important to meet with a board-certified plastic surgeon so you know what to expect. You’ll also need to be prepared for your surgery, so here’s what to keep in mind as you schedule your consultation.

You’ll Have a Physical Evaluation and Lab Work

Prior to surgery, your plastic surgeon will have a long discussion about your health and whether a mommy makeover is right for you. It’s important to consider whether you’re recovered from childbirth and if your body has returned to its normal hormonal state. If you have any health concerns, you may need to have bloodwork done so Dr. Nakamura can create a safe and effective surgical plan for you. You’ll also discuss your goals for a mommy makeover and what you hope to achieve so your plastic surgeon can determine the right surgical approach.

Your Medications Will be Taken Into Consideration

Your plastic surgeon will discuss any medications you’re currently taking, including supplements and over-the-counter pain relievers. You’ll be advised about any medications that should be discontinued prior to surgery. Pain relief medications and some herbal supplements can increase your risk of bleeding, so you may need to adjust your regimen accordingly.

You Should Not Smoke

Smoking can also increase your risk of bleeding during your procedure. It can also result in complications and a longer recovery. It’s recommended that you stop smoking at least one month before your procedure. You should not begin smoking again for at least one month after your surgery. If possible, this is a good time to quit smoking permanently to benefit your health.

Don’t Shave the Day Before or the Day of Your Procedure

Shaving before a surgical procedure can increase your risk of developing an infection because it leaves your skin more exposed to outside contaminants. To be safe, hold off on shaving a few days before the day of surgery. This also includes plucking and waxing.

Watch What You Eat and Drink

You should not have alcohol the day before your procedure. You will also need to fast before surgery to make sure your general anesthesia goes smoothly. In most cases, you’ll be advised to avoid eating or drinking anything after midnight the day before your surgery. If you don’t follow these instructions, your surgery may need to be rescheduled for your safety.

What is All Included in a Mommy Makeover?

Posted on January 28, 2020September 26, 2022 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

If you have researched plastic surgeries before then you have most likely heard the term “mommy makeover.” Although it is a popular term, many wonder what it actually means. The mommy makeover is a surgery that combines various procedures designed to reach your goals. The term is coined because it is popular with women who want to get back to their pre-pregnancy bodies. Dr. Nakamura is an experienced plastic surgeon in mommy makeovers. He will create your personalized mommy makeover based on your individual needs and goals.

What Procedures Are Done in a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy makeovers include procedures that will address the main areas of the body, the breasts, abdomen, and waist. Surgical options include breast augmentation, reduction, lift,  tummy tuck, waist tuck, and liposuction. A mini tummy tuck can be done in place of a full tummy tuck, depending on your individual needs.

Breast Augmentation

This surgery is done for women who would like larger, shapelier breasts. It involves placing implants into a pocket either under the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue. Implants can be customized to fit your specific goals.

Breast Reduction

This procedure reduces the size of very large, pendulous breasts that are disproportionate to your overall body. Often times, women with large breasts have many medical concerns like back and neck pain, shoulder pain, and skin irritation. This procedure is done by removing excess skin, fat, and tissue. Also, we will reposition the nipples and areola to a natural placement.

Breast Lift

A breast lift helps to reposition sagging breasts to a higher position. It is done by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape the breast contour. This surgery is often combined with a breast augmentation if the patient has lost volume in their breasts.

Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck procedure removes excess skin and fat that is concentrated in the abdomen. This surgery also tightens the abdominal wall muscles. It creates a slimmer abdomen for those who are self-conscious about their stomach.

Mini Tummy Tuck

If your stomach is already fairly slim, but you have excess skin and fat located in the lower abdomen area, then the mini tummy tuck can help to remove this. The mini tummy tuck is focused on the area under the navel to remove skin and tighten muscles.

Waist Tuck

The waist tuck is an extension on the tummy tuck to remove fat and skin from the waist and hip area. Women who have “muffin tops” can benefit from this surgery so they have a slimmer waist. During the waist tuck, Dr. Nakamura can slightly lift the buttocks as well for an overall enhanced look.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a very popular plastic surgery procedure done to remove fat. It can be done in multiple areas of the body. Liposuction is often done with mommy makeovers to enhance the overall results and improve contours.

Mini Tummy Tuck – What You Should Know

Posted on February 10, 2016 by Y. Anthony Nakamura

What is a mini tummy tuck?
A mini tummy tuck is also known as a mini abdominoplasty or a “scarless” tummy tuck. It is a modified tummy tuck that tightens the muscle and removes excess lower abdominal skin using an incision similar to one that a patient would need for a C-section. A mommy makeover combines multiple fat removal, skin lifting, and tightening techniques to correct the physical effects of childbearing.

Mommy makeovers can be tailored for each individual, but many women opt for a tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast enhancement. Continue reading “Mommy Makeover – What you need to know!” →
